The Orchard

1 min read

Gwynn Bassett is a high school senior in the small town of Stonelick, Ohio. She plans to leave upon graduating to pursue a life beyond the confines of her rural upbringing. Her friends understand her vision for her future and focus on enjoying their final year of high school together. One autumn night changes everything. A tree burns but is not consumed, her best friend’s little brother has an unnerving experience, and Gwynn finds herself in a most cruel and unusual way by a power with the illest of intents. Throughout history, trees have been the fount of a rich body of mythology, from the Old Testament stories of Adam and Eve and the burning bush to the Huldra of European folklore and the tales of King Arthur. Apples trees in particular have loomed larger than life from their association with the fae folk of Celtic myth to the Apple Tree Man of English folklore. Gwynn Bassett discovers that these tales may be more than just folklore and that not just everyone she loves but the entire world is in danger of a fiery fate dealt by her own hands.
