This being a werewolf-themed recommendation, it is an unavoidable given that hairy, man-wolf beasts are involved, but the reader must be prepared for the novel to take its time getting there. The journey is well worth it as the author takes care to not just set the stage for mayhem but develop characters worth knowing and caring about.
