Originally published in 1962, there are so many editions of this novel that including publication info on any single edition seems at the very least unnecessary. Suffice it to say that without this novel, there would be no IT, no Summer of Night, no Stranger Things. It is the wellspring from which so many novels, movies, comics, games, etc. sprang. The 1983 Disney movie, flawed and compromised despite impeccable performances by Jonathon Pryce and Jason Robards, falls well short of the novel. Bradbury is a poet, able to enfuse every word with nuance and meaning. If you haven’t read this novel you should fix that right now, though many modern readers need to be made aware that they may find Bradbury’s style too ornate for their tastes. On a very short list of my all-time favorite novels, this one ranks near the top.
